A few thoughts on a few things heading into the weekend, during which most of us, for most of the time, will be glued to the tube watching March Madness:

*I hope the Browns are truly interested in all these NFL Draft prospects they are interviewing, and it’s not just some kind of ruse they’re attempting to carry out so as to keep the other teams off their trail. Quit worrying about what other clubs are thinking and concentrate on what you’re thinking, and doing.
*The NFL — and all aspects of it, including the draft — is like a cafeteria line (if you don’t know what that is, then look it up). That is, if you don’t grab the food item you like when you first identify it, then someone else will. So, then, if the Browns are legitimately interested in the No. 1 quarterback on everybody’s draft board, Cam Ward, and believe that he is the one who can be their franchise passer and get this ship turned around, then, no matter how much it costs in draft capital, they have to trade up a spot to No. 1 with the Tennessee Titans and get it done. Nothing happens in this rebuild until you have a quarterback who is great, or has the strong chance to be such. And if the Titans aren’t budging, then take the No. 2 guy, Shadeur Sanders, who has a lot of charisma and leadership skills, which every great quarterback must have. Remember Bernie Kosar and Brian Sipe?
*And finally, in this space, we just talked about Gary Danielson, the best backup quarterback in Browns history. The best Browns backup quarterback in the expansion era — by far, it isn’t even close — is Joe Flacco. If I were running the Browns, it would take me about 90 seconds to get him back onto this roster. The improvement on the Browns — offensively and overall — last season was palpable. He led them to the playoffs. It was all him. The Browns don’t care about that. They don’t care about winning. They care about furthering their own agenda, and getting own their guy in there, even if he’s not going to be successful in terms of wins and losses. They thought he threw up many interceptions. They didn’t see any of the touchdown passes. It’s that convoluted logic that drives me absolutely crazy, and I’m sure many of you as well. And about that draft capital, it is like a lottery ticket. Sometimes it pays off, and sometimes it doesn’t. There are no guarantees. It is not as valuable as everybody thinks.
