As we get set to ring in the new year on Sunday night, it’s a good time to take stock of where we have been, where we are and where we’re headed.
It’s that way with the Browns, too.
Last year at this time, the Browns were staggering, stumbling and bumbling their way to a very unproductive and underachieving 7–10 finish. The 2022 season was about as much fun as getting a root canal.
Now, this year, the Browns are 11-5 and have already clinched a playoff spot with a game remaining. This season is about as much fun as any Browns season has ever been. The team keeps winning, despite having a multitude of injuries at nearly every position, including quarterback. The guy making the biggest difference is that quarterback, Joe Flacco, who came off his couch to direct the Browns to four straight wins.
Browns games are a happening once again. People begin looking to the next game as soon as the previous game is done.. Browns, Browns, Browns is all you hear around Northeast Ohio and throughout Browns Nation. Their play this year, and this wonderful season, is, as cousin Eddie so famously said, “the Christmas gift that keeps on givin’.” Only in this instance, we’re not kidding.
Indeed, it is a blessing, the likes of which this team hasn’t produced in a long, long time.
So, as you close the last part of 2023 — not the season, mind you,,but just the calendar year that — and get ready to usher in 2024, just keep in mind that this season is not over and may not be over until well into January, and, if the stars all continue to align in just the right way, perhaps even into February.
Think about that for a minute!
A blessing? You bet, and then some!
Last year seemed like some kind of bad dream. This year is a dream come true.
Happy New Year!
And thank you, Cleveland Browns!
