đ Last-Minute Fantasy Football Checklist
Draft day and Week 1 are here, and whether youâre a fantasy football veteran or a first-time manager, itâs easy to get caught up in the excitement and overlook key details. Donât worry â this checklist will make sure youâre fully prepared to give your team the best shot at a championship.
1. Check Injury Reports
Nothing sinks a fantasy roster faster than drafting or starting a player whoâs already hurt. Double-check the latest preseason injury updates and training camp news before locking in your roster.
2. Handcuff Your Star Running Backs
If you drafted an elite RB, make sure to secure their backup. Running backs face the highest injury risk, and having the ânext man upâ could save your season. Think of it as insurance for your most valuable assets.
3. Prioritize Volume Over Name Value
Itâs tempting to chase big names, but touches and targets win championships. A less flashy player who sees 8+ targets a week is often more valuable than a superstar in a crowded offense.
4. Balance Your Roster
Donât put all your eggs in one basket. Stacking teammates can be fun, but overloading on one teamâs offense means bye weeks and bad matchups could cripple your lineup. Spread your risk across the league.
5. Look for Late-Round Sleepers
The late rounds are where championships are built. Instead of filling your bench with aging veterans, target high-upside rookies or young players who could break out. Every year, league-winners come from the waiver wire or the last couple of draft rounds.
6. Set Your Lineup Early (Especially for TNF)
Thursday Night Football always sneaks up on fantasy managers. Donât forget to set your lineup before kickoff â and never leave a Thursday player in your FLEX spot.
7. Monitor the Waiver Wire from Week 1
Fantasy football is a marathon, not a sprint. Undrafted players always emerge as must-haves after the first week. Stay active on the waiver wire â itâs where smart managers separate from the pack.
8. Wait on Kickers and Defenses
If you havenât drafted yet, donât waste early or mid-round picks on a kicker or defense. Both positions can be streamed week-to-week based on matchups. Focus on skill players first.
9. Double-Check Bye Weeks
Nothing hurts worse than realizing your top QB, RB, and WR all share the same bye. Before locking in your draft, make sure your stars donât vanish on the same weekend.
10. Trust Your Gut
Rankings, projections, and expert opinions are useful â but at the end of the day, fantasy football is supposed to be fun. If you have a strong feeling about a player, go for it. Sometimes your gut pick becomes the difference-maker.
â With this checklist in hand, youâre ready to take on draft day, manage your roster with confidence, and (hopefully) dominate your league this season.
Good luck! đ
